San Diego’s Foxtide has released their sophomore album Entropy via Position Music. Graduating from the surf-rock sound they first introduced themselves with, Entropy is a mature step forward that draws near to the disorderly quality of life. Where celestial, nostalgic synths soar, the record remains tethered by guitar-forward arrangements and unguarded lyrics. In this transition, Foxtide creates this sort of in-between place; something sprawling and untouched. — Stream.
“‘Entropy’ is sonically a look in the mirror. You never look the same in the mirror on any given day,” shares singer Elijah Gibbins-Croft. “I think the band learned to push each other to new places in our writing on this album. I believe the album is a reflection of where each of us is at in life. We wanted the album to be a collection of standalone songs that found their way to one another. Working as an album because they create something woven and unique when together, but we also just love each song on its own.”
He continues, “‘Entropy’ is the perfect word for the qualities of this album as well as my experience while making the record. I initially picked this idea of entropy for the album because it is one of my girlfriend’s favorite concepts. ‘It represents the tendency of systems to move toward higher disorder (natural processes).’ I kept reading this definition and couldn’t help but align it with the record and my experiences recently. I think everything for me is definitely moving towards higher disorder, for better or for worse, it just is.”
Recorded at Singing Serpent in San Diego, the album was self-produced by the band with support from Jordan Krimston (benches, Oso Oso), and mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer (Panic! At The Disco, Tennis, Parquet Courts).
“I think self producing this record was pretty difficult but very necessary,” says Gibbins-Croft. “You learn more than ever when you throw yourself into the unknown and that’s what I wanted to do.”
Today will also see the release of the official video for “Heart In the Ground” at 9 am PT. Directed by Bowen Moreno, the cinematic cut asks what if Nathan Fielder or the Safdie brothers directed a Foxtide video? Contrasting the rough edges of hyper-masculinity and the playfulness of softness, the music video tugs at an unnamed emotion.
Leading up to the album, the band launched their Make Him Run campaign. Exceeding their goal of 10,000 pre-saves, their bassist Oey James now has to run a marathon in a Canadian tuxedo, holding his bass. Stay tuned here for all marathon updates.
After playing over 100 live shows last year, Foxtide has no plans of staying off the road. Kicking off next week, the band will embark on the Entropy Tour. The Los Angeles and San Diego dates sold out within days and second shows were added in each city, both already selling out. Tickets for Brooklyn, Carrboro and Chicago have also sold out with Washington, DC, Boston, Salt Lake City and San Francisco close behind. Along the way, Foxtide will make a stop to perform at Kilby Block Party in Salt Lake City. See all tour dates below.

ABOUT FOXTIDE:
Made up by Elijah Gibbins-Croft, Oey James and Ian Robles, Foxtide is a byproduct of being bred by the beach and raised by a DIY house show scene. The SoCal three-piece was formed around garage jam sessions and earned their cult following through the intense vitality of their live shows.
First starting to release music in 2019, it was the band’s second EP Visions in 2021 that took them from a hometown secret to a band to watch nationally. Foxtide has previously played alongside The Backseat Lovers, Echo & The Bunnymen, Lime Cordiale, Sarah and the Sundays, Mustard Service, Beach Goons, and joined the lineup of Shabang, Nothing Fest, and more.
Moving into the chapter of their next project, Foxtide is abandoning the idea that they need to create “perfect” music, and simply making what they like to listen to. Tinged with the aloofness of early 2000s rock, while experimenting with the formulas of modern pop, all threads are knotted in the authenticity behind Foxtide’s unrelenting love for music. The band’s third EP Paradise helped them secure critical looks from Fashionably Early ‘Bands that Deserve to be Bigger’, Luna Collective Magazine, and their debut LA headline show selling out. Their most recent record earned them the cover of Fashionably Early’s playlist as well as their first editorial look from Spotify in ‘All New Rock,’ and Apple’s ‘New In Rock’ and ‘New In Alternative.’ On the heels of the deluxe version, the band secured support tours with Arcy Drive, Pity Party Girls Club, and more to be announced.
Foxtide has most recently signed a record deal with Position Music, and have now released their second full length LP, Entropy.
