Los Angeles, CA- Tristan ChantZ released “GNASTY” featuring THAT808, with support from Dim Mak Records—an independent, Los Angeles–based record label, events company, and lifestyle brand founded by Steve Aoki in 1996. This marks Tristan’s first release with Dim Mak, following previous drops on Space Yacht, North of Neptune, Casa Sucia, and more.
Tristan ChantZ has emerged as a dynamic force in electronic music, making major waves in both tech house and drum and bass. Fusing thick basslines with infectious grooves, he’s become a driving sensation within the city’s thriving music scene. GNASTY
I had the chance to catch up with Tristan after his set at Lightning in a Bottle and asked him about the inspiration behind “GNASTY”:
“I was on a phone call with THAT808, producing from long distance (he lives in Canada). I sent him a new beat I was working on—he blasted it in Kesha (his truck) and said, ‘That shit is nasty.’ I said, ‘Hell yeah, it’s absolutely NASTY.’ And he replied, ‘Nasty with a G!’
That became an inside joke as we continued producing the track using various Splice vocals. Eventually, we decided to lean into the joke and make it the vocal hook. We already had a collab titled ‘Phunky with a PH’ (released in 2024), so this playful misspelling became a theme. He recorded some takes, sent them over, and I built them into this DnB beat. Everything just clicked—it gave the track its identity.”
