1. The forest:
It’s a mini Electric Forest. This festival offers so many similar things that our favorite festival Electric Forest has to offer. Everything is alike in comparison: The people (workers and attendees) and even the grounds. The Nirvana Woodlands offers unique art installations, music, pretty lights, and allows campers to set up hammocks to relax while we find ourselves in the woods.
2. The workshops and activities:
While many festivals have workshops and activities, backwoods incorporates many into their festival and we have a list!...A giant list! With all the festivities, it will be impossible to be bored. These festivities give great opportunity to learn new hobbies, perfect your old hobbies, and meet more festie fam! The people who attend this festival are basically your giant family anyway, so you might as well meet them!
Morning/Afternoon-ish: Morning Yoga, Morning Meditation, Water Vollyball tourney, Belly dancing, slackline group, poi/flow, acro-yoga, and hooping! Nightly: drum circle and glow poi (awesome!) All day: Painting and swimming!
All Day: Swimming! There will be lots of floatable activities ON the lake (including an island stage) Fishing (bring your license to fish in the 15 acre stocked lake) ferris wheel, helicopter rides, Lazer Tower Climb, swimming, art installations throughout the Nirvana woods, massages on Shakedown Street, body painting, billards, community art wall (they supply the paint), and tie dye (bring something white) and new Bar locations have been added!
Morning/Afternoon-ish: Giant Hay maze (over 25,000 feet with a bar at the end), HUGE Slip N Slide (bring your rafts and floaties!)
Nightly: Bonfire on the beach, drum circles till the wee hours of the morning (bring your instruments and good vibes!)
3. There are SEVEN STAGES:
Another great thing about this fest is the 7 different places with 7 different vibes to jam out to your favorite music. One of them is a 7,000 ft air conditioned club that has the best sound system and light show since…ever. So if you need a place to chill out, then “Elevate” has your back.
4. The ISLAND STAGE:
This festival is one of my favorites just because of this. During the day when you’re trying to escape the hot Oklahoma heat, you can cool off with drinks on the beach or in the water while listening to the DJ play. Nothing is cooler than this, I swear.
5. The KUMBAYA Stage:
IT’S A BEACH STAGE. That’s right, not only is there an Island stage…but there’s a stage on the beach. Nothing is better than sand between your toes with a cold drink in your hand dancing away, or sitting on a blanket watching the sunset listening to your favorite tunes…This stage is near the edge of the Nirvana Woodlands, and steps away from the water. You will find the greatest indie, jam, and acoustic sets here.
6. 360 degree discoball stage:
Literally in the center of the stage is a GIANT discoball that opens up like a lotus flower, and shoots out fire. The discoball is surrounded by six LED screen video TOWERS, which also shoot out 50’ flames from the top…that you can dance around. If that doesn’t convince you to check out this majestic festival then you’re crazy.
7. The giant treehouse:
Every person knows that when you mention a giant tree house, you automatically want to see it, sit in it, lay in it, the works. This year, the festival is upgrading their tree house stage by adding a 3rd level AND a tower right the middle of it all. In the tower the DJ performs, while the band beneath surrounding the DJ play the tunes. HOW AWESOME IS THAT?
8. It's a smaller festival:
While other festivals are selling out with over 70,000 attendees and barley any elbow room up front, backwoods is completely different. You are able to get close to the stages without feeling claustrophobic, and could easily see the artists. Camping space is never an issue since the festival is smaller in size (roughly another reason to grab your ticket NOW before it sells out!!!) But don’t get discouraged, this festival is growing in size this year and will be adding A LOT more space compared to last year.
9. They care :)
This year the festival is offering more shade structures for the heat, free classy water stations, and free daily trash pick-up service from your campsite. They will be coming around to pick up your trash, and also providing you with trash bags (YES they recycle!)
10. THE LINEUP
We don’t need to say more than this. That lineup speaks for itself! Grab your tickets here:
